Somatic Experiencing
I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). Somatic Experiencing (SE™) is a three year professional training program using a body-oriented therapeutic model for healing trauma and other stress disorders developed by Peter Levine. The SE approach releases traumatic shock, which is key to transforming PTSD and the wounds of emotional and early developmental attachment trauma. It offers a framework to assess where a person is “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze responses and provides clinical tools to resolve these fixated physiological states.
Trauma may begin as acute stress from a perceived life-threat or as the end product of cumulative stress. Both types of stress can seriously impair a person’s ability to function with resilience and ease.
The Somatic Experiencing approach facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body, thus addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms. SE helps people understand this body response to trauma and work through a “body first” approach to healing.

I have completed Touch Skills Training for Trauma Therapists (TST) which is a 96 hour professional training in the use of touch for trauma recovery and for deepening somatic awareness taught and developed by Kathy Kain. TST develops tactile skills, somatic awareness, and other touch-related skills in the context of working with the resolution of trauma and for more directly including the body in the resolution of traumatic stress symptoms. TST is designed to progressively build the ability to incorporate different types of touch, different body systems and tissues, and different somatic practices into one's trauma recovery practice.

Making Friends With the Brain (MFB) is a workshop using the current understandings of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, in conjunction with the latest information from somatics, to uncover ways to encourage a fuller and more kind relationship with our brain and brain function – to befriend our brain.

Transforming the Experience Based Brain
I have completed the first of three 36 hour modules of Transforming the Experience-Based Brain (TEB) is a "Trauma-Informed" modality developed and taught by Stephen Terrell. The modality is based on the idea that when there are ruptures during early platform development, they continue to disrupt a person's life. TEB incorporates presence, regulation, and relationship to repair these ruptures. TEB creates a Safe Haven where the client can begin to experience a sense of trust between themselves and the therapist. Even though these changes may be subtle, they hold powerful consequences.
Transforming Presence is an effective way of facilitating regulation within our client's nervous systems. The protocols and enhancements are designed to work with or without physical touch. The power of working with intention has been shared from therapists around the world. Some believe it is stronger than using physical touch.

Transforming Touch® is an effective way of facilitating regulation within our client's nervous systems using physical touch. The protocols and enhancements are designed to work with or without physical touch.

Mindfulness
Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) is a 36 hour comprehensive course developed and taught by Dan Siegel. The course includes focus on how the brain develops and changes through relationships, consciousness, and neuroplasticity; the role self-compassion plays in integration and well-being; the roles of and relationship between the left and right sides of the brain; and the process of change toward well-being as opportunities for growth of integration. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) developed by Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion, providing a powerful tool for emotional resilience. Mindfulness is the first step in emotional healing—being able to turn toward and acknowledge our difficult thoughts and feelings (such as inadequacy, sadness, anger, confusion) with a spirit of openness and curiosity. Self-compassion involves responding to these difficult thoughts and feelings with kindness, sympathy and understanding so that we soothe and comfort ourselves when we’re hurting.
